Make Your Own Candy This Year With Liddabits

My homemade chocolate dipped pretzels. Easy to do and the kids loved them!

Who doesn’t have a favorite candy?! Maybe it’s that one item from your childhood you couldn’t possibly live without, or a new one that the kids have introduced you to. One word of warning there. Make sure it’s not one of those tremendously sour ones. The word “gotcha” comes to mind. But have you ever thought of making your own candy? Why not, when you have the help of Liz Gutman and Jen King, and “The Liddabits Sweets Candy Cookbook.” We have “Trick or Treat on Radio Street”  here at work for employee’s kids, and I wanted to make chocolate dipped pretzel rods. Thanks to the good advice in the Liddabits book, they turned out yummy with many chocolate smeared thumbs up of approval. Imagine starting your own company after graduating from the prestigious French Culinary Insitute with someone who became your best friend at school. The fact that Liz and Jen are still best friends speaks volumes to their talent and business savvy. Liddabits Sweets opened in 2009 in Brooklyn, and their new book is a great how-to that will take the fear out of doing your own candy, and takes you step by step through the process. Make your own gummies or those delectable mint meltaways without a lot of fuss. Jen had some good suggestions on what to try this year, and when it comes to doing it yourself for any special occasion, Liz had some good tips for making your own candy this year.

This is a fun way to get the kids involved, too. I do love the girl’s attitudes when it comes to using their book. It happens to be the same as mine; it’s okay to get the pages a little sticky! But their best advice is to just read the book, follow the directions and use the right tools and ingredients. You’ll save a lot of time, but actually being able to eat our mistakes, well, that’s okay too. I'd put this on the Kelly's Kitchen Collection list for Christmas this year. How cool would it be to say "I made that just for you."
