Sunday's NASCAR race at Martinsville canceled by snow

For the first time since 1993, a NASCAR race was canceled because of snow.

The STP 500 race at Martinsville Speedway was moved to Monday after snow continued to fall at the Virginia racetrack, NASCAR reported on its website. The Camping World Truck Series race, which was canceled after 23 laps Saturday, also resumes on Monday at 11 a.m. EDT, with the STP 500 expected to begin at 2 p.m.

Both races will air on FS1.

NASCAR Executive Vice President Steve O'Donnell tweeted that the decision was made for safety reasons.The last time snow postponed a NASCAR Cup race came in 1993 at Atlanta, ESPN reported.

Martin Truex Jr. is on the pole for the STP 500.

Dale Jr., Amy Earnhardt expecting baby girl

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is going to be a dad.

The NASCAR driver and his wife, Amy Earnhardt, made Instagram posts announcing they are expecting a baby girl, according to NASCAR.com.

“Excited to share the wonderful news that @mrsamyearnhardt and I are expecting our first child. A little girl!!!! We are both thrilled and can’t wait to meet her,” Dale Earnhardt Jr., 43, captioned his post Monday. Amy Earnhardt reposted the same image with his message and heart-eyed emojis.

The couple got married in a New Year’s Eve ceremony in 2016.

Happy Birthday dude,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. wrote on his Instagram page alongside a photo of himself as a child with his dad.

It had already been quite a week for the younger Earnhardt. He announced Tuesday that he would be retiring at the end of the 2017 NASCAR season and he celebrated the creation of The Dale and Amy Earnhardt Activity Room at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, alongside his wife, Amy.

Besides Dale Earnhardt’s fans, fellow drivers and other members of the Earnhardt family also paid tribute to the NASCAR legend.

“Thinking about my pawpaw today on his 66th birthday,” Jeffrey Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt’s grandson, wrote on his Instagram page. “Some (heroes) wore capes, he wore a fire suit. Big inspiration in my life.”
