Armed man shot, wounded by FBI agent outside CIA headquarters, bureau confirms

MCLEAN, Va. — At least one agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation shot and wounded an unidentified man outside CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, early Monday evening.

In a one-paragraph statement, the FBI stated that the person had been involved in a “security incident” outside the CIA before he “emerged from his vehicle with a weapon” and was “engaged by law enforcement officers,” resulting in his wounding at around 6 p.m., The Washington Post reported.

The shooting was first reported by NBC News.

The wounded man was taken to an area hospital after the shooting, the bureau stated.

Samantha Shero, a public affairs officer for the FBI’s Washington Field Office, told The New York Times in an email that the bureau “takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously.”

“The review process is thorough and objective and is conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances,” Shero said.

According to the Post, the bureau has not yet publicly identified the wounded man, the nature of his wounds or the weapon it stated he brandished.

The CIA’s secure campus has served the agency since 1961, and is closed to the general public, the Times reported.
