Gwinnett County Schools police Officer Zakia Williams was driving home Tuesday when she noticed a car moving erratically, WSB-TV reported.

“As I’m going home, I see a car swerving in and out,” Williams said. “They have their windows down and they are screaming and beeping their horn.”

The people screaming inside the vehicle were the parents of the infant who was not breathing.

They pulled over and Williams immediately started performing life saving techniques on the child.

“I put her on my knee, because I didn’t want to put her on the ground,” Williams said. “I just started CPR on her.”

Within moments the child was breathing again. She was crying as paramedics arrived. She was taken to a hospital for further evaluation. Williams has checked in with the parents a couple of times since the incident and the child appears to be OK.

The incident affirms why Williams became a police officer.

“When I signed up for this job, I knew what it entailed,” Williams said. “The main thing was to protect and serve my community. And I just feel like I was fulfilling part of my duty.”
