Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, opened up about suffering a miscarriage in a New York Times opinion piece published Wednesday.

In the personal essay, the former Meghan Markle, who shares 18-month-old son Archie with husband Prince Harry, said she suffered a pregnancy loss in July.

“After changing [Archie’s] diaper, I felt a sharp cramp,” she wrote. “I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.”

The former “Suits” actress, who moved to Southern California with Harry and Archie earlier this year, added: “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

The duchess went on to tie her loss to recent hardships others have faced, such as coronavirus-related deaths and the killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, which sparked protests nationwide. To heal, people must share their pain, she wrote.

“So this Thanksgiving, as we plan for a holiday unlike any before — many of us separated from our loved ones, alone, sick, scared, divided and perhaps struggling to find something, anything, to be grateful for — let us commit to asking others, ‘Are you OK?’” she wrote. “As much as we may disagree, as physically distanced as we may be, the truth is that we are more connected than ever because of all we have individually and collectively endured this year.”
