The past and the present presidents and first ladies sat together at the Carters’ home in Plains, Georgia, WSB reported.

No masks were needed as both first couples are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Carter, 96, and his wife, 93, were not able to attend Biden’s inauguration because of the pandemic, so the meeting Thursday was the first time the two sat down face to face, The Associated Press reported.

The current president served in the Senate representing Delaware when the former president, who is now the longest-living former president, lived in the White House. Biden, 78, is the oldest sitting president, the AP reported.

WSB reported that Biden was an ally of Carter’s during his term from 1977 to 1981. Biden endorsed Carter’s candidacy in 1976, the AP reported. Carter won his campaign against Republican and then-incumbent Gerald Ford.
