Recall alert: Estimated 226K smoke, carbon monoxide detectors recalled nationwide

MEBANE, N.C. — Kidde issued a recall Thursday for roughly 226,000 TruSense smoke and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms that can fail to alert consumers to a fire.

To date, no incidents or injuries related to the recall have been reported, and the Mebane, North Carolina-based company will replace all affected alarms at no cost to the consumer, according to the U.S. Product Safety Commission.

Consumers are asked to immediately contact Kidde for a free replacement alarm but are advised to continue using the recalled products until they install replacement alarms.

The affected alarms were sold at Walmart, Home Depot, Menards and other department, home and hardware stores and electrical distributors nationwide between May 2019 and September 2020 for between $10 and $70. The products were also sold online on Amazon.com, ShopKidde.com and other online retailers.

According to Kidde, the recalled products include model series 2040, 2050, 2060 and 2070 Smoke and Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide alarms. Model numbers are printed on the back of the alarms, and only those alarms with the TruSense logo or “AMBER=FAULT” printed on the front are included in the recall. Specifically, the recall applies to the following products:

• Smoke alarm, model number 2040-DSR

• Smoke alarm, model number 2050-DS10

• Smoke alarm, model number 2060-ASR

• Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide alarm, model number 2070-VDSCR

• Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide alarm, model number 2070-VASCR

• Smoke alarm, model number 2070-VDSR

• Smoke alarm, model number 2060-VASR
