The Oxford Dictionary word of the year has been revealed

Well, it’s more of a phrase

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - DECEMBER 2: A man holds a phone, displaying word of ''brain rot'', as the Oxford Dictionary has chosen the word, which refers to the unnecessary and entertaining use of social media, as the word of the year in London, United Kingdom on December 2, 2024. The word of the year has been decided, and it’s ‘brain rot’.

No, this isn’t some terrible flesh-eating disease...it’s defined as “The supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of [online content] considered to be trivial or unchallenging.”

So basically what happens to all of us when we decide to be couch potatoes scrolling on our phones for hours, and we’re fine with that.
