The remains were identified as those of Regina Michalski, according to WLS-TV.

The body was reportedly found just after 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to WBBM. Officers removed the freezer from a detached rear garage in the 5500 block of West Melrose Street just after 9 p.m.

WBBM reported that it was unknown what happened prior to the body being placed in the freezer and who may have done it. It was also unclear how investigators learned about the body being in the freezer.

Residents of the building believe that their landlord may have placed the body - her elderly mother - inside of the freezer, according to WLS-TV.

Nothing has yet been confirmed including the cause of death, according to WFLD.

The investigation is ongoing.
