Angie Torres, 48, of San Antonio, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence with intent to impair, a third-degree felony, in the death of King Jay Davila, KSAT reported.

Torres was charged with assisting the staged car theft and kidnapping of the 8-month-old boy, including the discarding of a car seat to cover up the child’s death, KABB reported.

In exchange for her plea, Torres admitted she committed the crime with her cousin, Christopher Davila, and her aunt, Beatrice Sampayo, 67, the television station reported.

Christopher Davila, the boyfriend of King Jay’s mother, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in June after he pleaded no contest to the offense of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury or death. He will also have to pay a $1,500 fine.

King Jay Davila was originally reported missing on Jan. 4, 2019, when he was allegedly taken from a car at a gas station, KENS reported. The child was found dead a week later in a field, wrapped in a blanket and buried in a backpack, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Investigators determined that the kidnapping was a “staged event,” KENS reported.

Christopher Davila was charged with injury to a child, child endangerment and tampering with evidence, along with two other unrelated charges.

He later called the boy’s death an accident, the Express-News reported.

“Two defendants have accepted responsibility for their roles in this horrible crime. One is serving significant time for causing this innocent baby’s life, now another is headed to prison for helping him try to keep law enforcement from bringing them to justice,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement. “No amount of time will bring King Jay back to our community, but these pleas hold those responsible for his untimely death.”
