Gov. Kay Ivey said she “couldn’t be more pleased” with the move.

The Space Command will be housed at Redstone Arsenal.

“The combination only enhances the outstanding relationships we have with the 65 diverse federal agencies on Redstone Arsenal, not to mention the growing presence of the FBI and other federal installations. The bottom line is simple, the Redstone Region is the most natural choice to become home o such an important mission for our country,” Ivey said, according to WAFF.

She also said the site was a good choice because of the area’s “skilled workforce, proximity to supporting space entities, cost-effectiveness, and quality of life,” AL.com reported.

The award of the Space Command headquarters will bring at least 1,600 new jobs to the area with more expected once the command grows, AL.com reported.

The Space Command won’t be relocated to Huntsville soon as it will be at its current Colorado Springs location for at least six years.

Space Command is not the same as Space Force, which was created in August 2019. It is also different from the Space Development Agency, which was created in March 2019, according to the Department of Defense.
