‘We are quiet, but we are okay’: Chrissy Teigen says after loss of baby

On Oct. 1, Chrissy Teigen revealed that her unborn baby had died due to pregnancy complications.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she captioned a series of photos on Instagram.

In the two weeks that followed the announcement, the model and TV personality, who is usually very active on social media, didn’t post on any platforms.

During a performance Wednesday for the Billboard Music Awards, Teigen’s husband, Emmy-winning singer John Legend, performed his song, “Never Break.”

The song lyrics speak of the couple’s bond even amid hardship: “Built on a foundation strong enough to stay, we will never break. As the water rises and the mountains shake, our love will remain."

Legend posted a video of the performance on social media Friday along with a heartfelt message dedicated to his wife:

"This is for Chrissy. I love and cherish you and our family so much. We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments. What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility.

“I wrote this song because I have faith that as long as we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test. We promised each other this on our wedding day seven years ago, and every challenge we’ve faced has made that promise more powerful, more resilient. Our love will remain. We will never break.”

Thank you to everyone who has been sending us prayers and well wishes, flowers, cards, words of comfort and empathy. We feel and appreciate your love and support more than you know. More than anything, we’ve heard so many stories about how so many other families have experienced this pain, often suffering in silence. It’s a club no one wants to be a part of, but it’s comforting to know we’re not alone. I’m sure Chrissy will have much more to say about this when she’s ready. But just know we’re grateful and we’re sending love to all of you and your families.

Legend went on to thank friends and family for their support and condolences.

“More than anything, we’ve heard so many stories about how so many other families have experienced this pain, often suffering in silence. It’s a club no one wants to be a part of, but it’s comforting to know we’re not alone,” he wrote.

He also acknowledged that Teigen would likely speak out about the situation at some point in the future with “much more to say ... when she’s ready.”

Teigen shared her husband’s post on her Instagram profile, along with the caption, "We are quiet but we are okay.”

The model and singer-songwriter revealed they were expecting their third child in August when Teigen appeared with a baby bump in Legend’s newest music video.

The next month, she chronicled her experiences with anxiety amid pregnancy complications and shared videos as she received treatment at a California hospital for excessive bleeding.

In a series of posts, Teigen said she had been bleeding for about a month, noting some of the loss was “like if you were to turn a faucet onto low and leave it there.”

“I’m usually at my happiest pregnant, mood-wise. I feel happier than I do not pregnant. That’s why it’s so so hard for me to come to terms with,” she said at the time.

Teigen said she made it about halfway through the pregnancy before their son died. The couple had decided to name him Jack.
