Here's how much trash the 'Little Skimmer' in Tampa has collected

Our hero!

Two years ago Tampa introduced the ‘Little Skimmer’, which is a special vessel designed to collect trash as it makes it way through Tampa waterways. It runs about 10 hours a day and 4 days a week, collecting everything from average debris to half-sunken boats. The boat collects the waste and it is then converted into energy at the City’s Waste to Energy Facility.

In the 2 years since it began running, the ‘Little Skimmer’ has collected a WHOPPING 72,500 pounds of trash from our environment! In Mayor Jane Castor’s press release she said, “Tampa’s waterways are an invaluable resource, and we are committed to protecting them. The Litter Skimmer has made a significant impact over the past two years, but keeping our city clean is a team effort. I encourage all residents to do their part by properly disposing of their trash and participating in our cleanup efforts.”

Keep skimming Little Skimmer!
